The story begins circa 931 bc with the tragic reign of Jeroboam. Jeroboam was the first king of a divided Israel. (In Scripture Israel is referred to as the northern kingdom and Judah the southern kingdom. Jeroboam forsook his God by creating and worshipping gods other than the Lord. This was bitterly ironic, for he had been promised blessings from God if he would but listen to all that God commanded him, walk in Gods ways, and do what is right by keeping God’s statues and commandments.
